For some utilities, your Peek device requires registration to be able to receive up to date energy information.
For these utilities, you MUST register to be able to use the Peek device.
Some utilities will have their energy data hard coded into the Peek device. For these utility customers the Peek device will display the correct price tiers the moment it is plugged into an outlet. However - you may still want to register your device. Registration allows you to always keep an eye on your energy rates, but also allows your utility to send you energy alerts and keep you informed about rate changes and energy saving offers.
Regardless of your utility, it is worth while registering your Peek device to ensure the best experience and maximize your energy cost awareness and ability to conserve!
Energy companies are changing the way they bill you for energy. Instead of a flat rate, energy companies are switching to ‘time of use’ rates which can change throughout the day. PEEK is a simple plug in monitor that lets you see what energy rate your home is using at any point during the day.
1 - Plug PEEK into an easy to see wall outlet.
2 - Download the PEEK app.
3 - Use the PEEK app to connect PEEK to Wi-Fi and your Utility Company.
If you have any problems setting up your Peek device, please contact our Customer Care Team here.
PEEK uses Bluetooth for initial set-up. Then stays connected and automatically updated via Wi-Fi.
Entering your utility code with your camera is easy:
1) Tap “USE YOUR CAMERA TO SCAN THE CODE”
2) Give the Peek App permission to use your camera
3) Center the gray box over the Utility Code
4) Tap the check box. Done!
Please see our step-by-step Set Up guide for more details.
Not all utility companies require a code to set up a Peek device.
If your utility company DOES require a code, you will find it on the welcome letter accompanying your Peek device.
After launching the Peek app and selecting your utility, you will be required to enter your utility code.
You can enter this manually with the keypad, or scan it with your phone's camera.
If your utility DOES NOT require a code, the Peek app will automatically skip this step in the set up.
Please see our step-by-step Set Up guide for more details.
PEEK is always showing the next 12hrs, so at 1pm it will be displaying the current rates for 1pm to 2am.
The brightest light denotes the current hour, it's color indicates the current price tier.
- PEEK uses a simple ‘traffic light’ system to display your rate tiers:
- RED = Peak time. Rates are at their highest.
- YELLOW = Semi-Peak rates.
- GREEN = Off-Peak. Lowest Current Rate.
Flashing lights mean that during these times your utility is conducting an ‘Energy Event’. Energy Events are usually periods when energy demand is highest and so are prices. (Sometimes even higher than regular peak rates). You can save a lot by avoiding running appliances during these times.
PEEK will always display the correct current rates. Utilities switching to ‘time of use’ billing sometimes bill at the lowest Off-Peek rate for weekends and sometimes holidays, so it is possible that sometimes you may see all the lights the same color.
During times when the lights are red your home is being billed at the highest Peak rate. The best thing to do is defer things like laundry, dishwasher, heating & cooling till later when rates are lower. During these times it’s good to be especially aware of your homes energy use.
A circling red light means that your PEEK monitor is plugged in and receiving power, but not connected.
From time to time your utility company might send you push alerts. Generally, these will be simple reminders of when rate changes occur, or when rates are highest. Depending on your utility company, you may also receive notifications of utility sponsored energy saving programs, Energy Star appliance rebates or conservation tips.
Yes! Just toggle them off in your settings on the PEEK app.
PEEK is only as efficient as you make it. It won’t turn things off for you, or go shopping for new Energy Star appliances. But it will keep you aware of when rates are high. During these times it’s up to you to be mindful of your energy use to avoid running up your bill.
Currently PEEK is only available through select utilities, but if your utility has switched to ‘time of use’ or is about to, please let us know, we’d like to talk to them.
The brightest light on the PEEK device denotes the current hour.
Yes! If you have several people living in your home you can all check the actual rates from the Peek app, even if you only have a single Peek device.
• Download the Peek app.
• Login using the email and password used to set up the original account.
That's it!
You can set the PEEK device lights to switch off at night from the ‘settings’ tab in the PEEK app.
If you don’t wish to turn the lights off completely at night you can also set them to dim at night time.
Although plugged directly into the mains, PEEK is a LOW VOLTAGE device and uses less than 0.2 kWH per day.
The Peek device was designed to use very little electricity... about the same as an LED nightlight.
In the PEEK app, you can tap any one of the numbers from 1-12 on the PEEK dial. The PEEK app will display the actual rate your home will be using at those times. Click the Time Of Use tab below for your summary of your utility’s current rates.

For specific questions about your electricity rates, please contact your utility directly.
PEEK's default setting dims the lights between 11pm and 6am, but you can set it to whatever works for you.
In Settings, select 'Light Behavior', the simple slider allows you to set your PEEK just how you like it.
Yes!
In the PEEK app go to settings, tap the name and call your PEEK whatever you like.
Two circling blue lights means that your PEEK monitor is connected to your phone via Bluetooth and is ready for set-up. Your phone will show you what networks are available for PEEK to connect to.
NOTE: PEEK cannot connect to a 5Ghz network.
Circling purple lights mean that your PEEK monitor is connected to WiFi and is attempting connection to the PEEK servers.
This should last just a few seconds during set up before your PEEK monitor and your PEEK app receive and display actual prices and times.
If you see 4 purple lights circling at any other time other than initial set up, this means that PEEK cannot connect to the PEEK servers. Please contact customer care HERE.
3 yellow lights circling means that your PEEK monitor cannot connect to the WiFi router.
Check your router is plugged in and be sure you are using the correct password.
